Thornlands Crematorium
Thornlands Crematorium is a thoughtfully designed facility that brings together architectural sensitivity and material performance. Incorporating Stratco’s premium Colorbond® steel cladding and roofing, the project exemplifies how civic architecture can achieve both aesthetic refinement and enduring functionality.
Architectural Intent and Material Harmony
Designed to house a funeral home, chapel, and gathering spaces, the crematorium’s layout and material palette were carefully curated to evoke a sense of calm, dignity, and lightness. The building’s grounded base of light-toned masonry is visually balanced by the elevated contrasting steel cladding, creating a layered composition that feels both serene and contemporary.
Roofing Excellence with Stratco CGI Corrugated
The expansive roofscape is finished in Stratco CGI Corrugated roofing, specified in 0.48BMT in Colorbond® Bluegum®, and complemented by custom crimped flashings. This combination ensures seamless continuity across the roofline while delivering superior weather resilience. The building’s distinctive Dutch prow gables, an architectural feature, adds visual interest and elevates the overall roof design.
Bold Contrast with Hiland Tray Cladding
To contrast the masonry base, Stratco Hiland Tray in Colorbond® Monument® was applied to the upper wall sections. This profile introduces a bold, modern edge to the design while helping to visually reduce the scale of the buildings. The use of steel cladding enabled cost efficiency without compromising on architectural integrity, an essential consideration for civic projects intended for long-term community use.
